Real Estate Commission Should Be Negotiable
If you follow the news then you're likely to have seen recent headlines regarding anti-trust lawsuits and real estate commissions. In fact, one such case was recently litigated right nearby in Kansas City, MO. The plaintiffs in that case alleged conspiracy to inflate commissions and the defendants included the National Association of REALTORS and several well-known franchise names. To the surprise of most in the real estate world, the jury returned a very quick verdict for the plaintiffs.
For the record, this verdict came as no surprise to me. I was almost certain this was to be the outcome before the trial even started. In fact I'd been planning for it for years. R+K Real Estate was founded on the basis of negotiating commission back in 2019. From the beginning we set out to provide a business model we felt was missing in the local real estate market. That model is one that provides full-service real estate at a high level of customer service for far less commission than anyone else was willing or able to offer. And over the past 4 yeas we've saved our clients many thousands of dollars!
Consider the following graphic.
Shown here is a comparison of commission models based on the average price of a home in Lawrence, KS. The blue represents options offered by R+K Real Estate. The black represents the most common "traditional" models offered by just about everyone else. As the image makes crystal clear, R+K is willing and able to negotiate commission to extremely competitive levels. We believe this is the future of real estate!
